Getting Newton Beyond Recyling to Zero Waste

Join LWVN on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 7:00-8:00pm, for a virtual presentation by Karen Slote of the Newton Sustainable Materials Management Commission, to learn about the recommendations being made by the Commission to set Newton on the path towards zero waste.
Reducing waste is a matter of human and environmental health, equity, and also a way for the City to mitigate future rise in disposal costs. The recommendations to be presented for achieving zero waste are outlined in the Report released recently by the Newton Sustainable Materials Management Commission. Measurable goals, variable size carts, ‘less cost for less trash’ programs, and citywide organics collection are some of the strategies that can help us reduce trash and buffer us against cost increases and environmental decline.
