About the Scholarship
The League of Women Voters Newton (LWVN) scholarship program was launched in 2021, and since then has granted scholarships to about ten students. The program offers scholarships for graduating high school seniors who reside or attend school in Newton and who have plans to continue their education after graduation (college, vocational education, etc.).
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement, with a strong interest in promoting both the democratic process and positive solutions to public policy issues. Financial need will also be considered.

Criteria
- The student lives in/goes to school in Newton. This would include public and private school students, METCO students, and students who are home-schooled.
- In life and through school work, the student holds core values that are in alignment with those of the League.
- The student has a strong interest in promoting both the democratic process and positive solutions to public policy issues.
Timeline and Application
- The online LWVN Scholarship Application generally opens sometime in February and is due by April 30.
- In May, our evaluation team will review applications and make a final decision.
- Awards will be made in late May – early June.
