National and state positions form the basis on which we make our local position decisions.
The positions of the League of Women Voters US are found in Impact on Issues.
The positions of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts are found in Where We Stand, and fall into the broad categories of Government, including voting and elections; Natural Resources; and Social Policy, including meeting basic human needs and education.
Every two years, in alternating years, local leagues are invited to participate in the LWVUS (even years) or LWVMA (odd years) program planning process by reviewing existing LWVUS or LWVMA positions and making recommendations for League program for the next two years. Members then vote at the respective convention to adopt new positions. The LWVN is entitled to send voting delegates to both conventions.
League program is a core component of the League’s mission: it is a three-part process comprised of program planning, study and consensus, and advocacy. Because the League of Women Voters is a grassroots organization, its positions at all levels are based on members’ study and consensus.
Though the League takes positions on issues, the League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse political parties or candidates.
