LWVN Member Meeting – Vote on Newton’s Override Proposal
February 7 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
To LWVN Members ONLY:
Please join us on Tuesday, February 7, from 7:00-8:00pm, via Zoom for an informational presentation on Newton’s proposed override.
This is an all-member meeting, per our bylaws, to vote on whether to amend our program for this year and take a position on the 2023 override proposal.
The meeting will be moderated by Debbie Winnick of LWV of Cape Cod. Both Vote Yes for Newton, the campaign in support of the proposed override, and No Override Newton, the campaign opposed to the proposed override, have been invited to give a 10-minute presentation on their position. (Note: We could not find a website link for the No Override Newton campaign, however here are two NewTV “Tax Talk” programs about the override that reflect the No position.) These presentations will be followed by a question and answer period open to the members.
After the question and answer period, those members attending the session will be given time to vote on whether or not LWVN should take a position on the override. The vote will be conducted anonymously, and the results of the vote will be tabulated before the conclusion of the Zoom meeting and announced to those attending. If a majority of members vote to support a position on the override, LWVN would then be able to take action.
According to our bylaws, we need a quorum of 15 in order to take this vote. Please be sure to attend and bring your questions, concerns, and opinions!
Current members may REGISTER HERE to receive a link to the meeting. For purposes of this meeting, a current member is anyone whose membership dues for the 2023 Fiscal Year have been received by February 6, 2023.
