Newton General Election – Tuesday, November 2, 2021

The November election includes races for the following city offices:  mayor, 16 at-large councilors, 8 ward councilors, and 8 school committee members.

Application deadline for mail-in voting is Wednesday, October 27, 2021.  Early voting is available at City Hall from Monday, October 25 through Saturday, October 30

Who are the candidates and how can Newton voters learn more?

The candidates for Mayor are:

  • Ruthanne Fuller
  • Amy Mah Sangiolo

The candidates for at-large councilors include:

  • Ward 1: Alison Leary and John Oliver (incumbents) with challenger Allan Ciccone
  • Ward 2: Susan Albright and Tarik Lucas (incumbents)
  • Ward 3: Andrea Kelley and Pamela Wright (incumbents) with challenger Meryl Kessler
  • Ward 4: Leonard Gentile and Josh Krintzman (incumbents)
  • Ward 5: Deborah Crossley and Andreae Downs (incumbents) with challenger Rena Getz
  • Ward 6: Alicia Bowman and Victoria Danberg (incumbents) with challenger Lisa Gordon
  • Ward 7:  Becky Grossman and Marc Laredo (incumbents)
  • Ward 8:  David Kalis and Richard Lipof (incumbents)

Ways to Vote

Mail-In Voting

Applications for mail-in voting must be received by 5:00pm, Wednesday, October 27, 2021.  A completed and signed application is required for voters to receive a mail-in ballot.

Print out, sign, and return your application:

by mail to:

Drop it in one of the Drop Boxes at City Hall.

Once you receive your ballot…

  • Vote the ballot and place it in the ballot (inner) envelope
  • Sign the inner envelope (with your ballot inside)
  • Return your ballot in the mailing (outer) envelope provided.  Ballots can be mailed with proper postage or returned to an elections drop box at City Hall.

Please allow ample mailing time for your application and for the ballot. Ballots must be returned to your the Clerk’s Office by 8pm on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. 

Early Voting: 

Early, in-person voting will take place at City Hall on Monday, October 25 through Friday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, October. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Election Day Voting:  November 2, 2021

Vote at your polling location on November 2 from 7am to 8pm.  Find your Election Day polling location here.
