In this episode of The League Presents, Marcia Johnson spoke with Josh Morse, who is Newton’s Public Building Commissioner. Given that the LWVN recently endorsed passage of the three override questions, our conversation is aimed at helping the community to better understand how the override funds, should voters approve the questions, be spent on our school buildings.

LWVN Supports Act to Modernize Participation in Public Meetings

March 8, 2023

On March 8, 2023, LWVN sent a letter to the state delegation requesting that they advocate for passage of the Act to Modernize Participation in Public Meetings.

The bill, as summarized by the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts, supports these goals:

This bill Amends MGL 30A (Open Meeting Law) to require public bodies to provide an adequate, alternative means of public access to their deliberations, such as telephone or video conferencing and that access information be provided in the minutes of all meetings. It provides municipal public bodies experiencing financial hardship the ability to request a waiver of the provision.

You can read the entirety of LWVN’s letter below.
