Charter Commission Meeting Observer Notes December 9, 2015 Read more →
On Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen approved, by a vote of 17-6, the proposal to build a 68-unit building on the site of Austin Street parking lot. LWVN was a member of the Friends of Austin Street, a group advocating for the project because of the benefits it will bring: an increase in the number of affordable housing units, an environmentally friendly construction method, and a transit-oriented development offering single-level living in one of our village centers.
LWVN thanks all the Aldermen for their thorough and thoughtful consideration of this project, and Mayor Warren for supporting this project all the way though to the vote on Tuesday. We especially thank Alderman Marc Laredo for his leadership during the many public hearings, ensuring a fair and respectful process. LWVN also thanks the members of Friends of Austin Street for their leadership, organization, and dedication on this issue. We are proud to have participated in supporting this worthy project and look forward to its completion.
The new Charter Commission will hold its first public hearing on Thursday, December 17, at 7 pm in the Aldermanic Chamber at City Hall. Click here to link to the agenda for the meeting: public hearing agenda
Help LWVN members stay up-to-date on the Charter Commission! We need volunteers to observe the charter commission meetings and take notes to post on our website. The Charter Commission will meet twice a month, the second and fourth Wednesdays after the first Monday of each month, and we’d like to have an observer each time. If you can help, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
