Local Planning 2020 – Please Note: There is a new Zoom Link

April 10, 2020

Dear LWVN Members,

On April 15th, you are encouraged to join the Board for our local planning session from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.  Due to the current circumstances and in the interest in your health and safety, this meeting will be held virtually by using Zoom, see below for information.

This is a very important meeting as we will be making recommendations to the full membership for review and approval at our annual meeting in June 2020.  As you consider what issues for study and action are important to Newton, I have attached the following:

  • 2019-2020 Proposed Program
  • Membership direction to the Board from the 2019 Annual Meeting
  • 2019-2020 LWVN Tactical Plan

We ask that you please review these documents and plan to participate as your thoughts and ideas are critical, probably more so than at any other time in our history.

We look forward to your participation.  Please join us on Zoom.

You can join a Zoom meeting by computer or by phone. You do not need a Zoom account. Read more →

LWVMA Climate Emergency Action Resolution and Plan

August 21, 2019

From LWVMA:

See below both the Climate Emergency Resolution, submitted as testimony  to the Joint Committee on Telecommunications and Utilities and passed at the 2019 LWVMA Convention unanimously, and the Climate Emergency Plan, approved by the Board of the LWVMA on July 26, 2019.

In his keynote speech at the convention, Bill McKibben made it clear that global societies have an urgent “action deficit” in terms of the response to date on the climate crisis. He also pointed out that the League has a unique and special role to play as a highly-regarded and respected organization with a 100-year history of championing policies for the public good and strengthening our democracy.
