Champagne & Chocolate a Success!

April 2, 2026

Our first fundraiser in over eight years was a huge success!  We had over 100 people attend, and we achieved our fundraising goal to help sustain our High School Scholarship Program.

Thank you to our Donors:
Patrons:  Ellen & Stephen Grody, Rhanna Kidwell & Dan Silver
Sponsors:  Sandy Butzel, Deb Crossley, Nancy Crowley, Ruthanne Fuller, Heather Hamilton, Jane Harper & Neil Kulick, Anne Larner, John Lawn, Julie Lindstrom, Kathy Shields, & Terry Yoffie

Thank you to the local businesses who contributed to a beautiful dessert table:  Antoine’s Pastry Shop, Blacker’s Bakeshop, Cookie Monstah, Country Desserts Bakeshop, Hilliards Chocolates, Icing on the Cake, Indulge, Little L Bakery, The Half Cookie & Wegman’s, and to Newton Highlands Wine & Spirits, for supplying bubbly.

Thank you to a Fundraising Committee without whom none of this would have been possible:
Deb Crossley, Frieda Dweck, Lee Gelb, Ellen Grody, Jane Harper, Marcia Johnson, Julie Lindstrom & Carolina Ventura.

And our sincerest appreciation to:
Our Host – Ruthanne Fuller
Our Esteemed Speaker – Lt Governor Kim Driscoll

Donate to the LWVN Scholarship Fund

November 21, 2025

The LWVN scholarship program was launched in 2021.  The program offers scholarships for graduating high school seniors who reside or attend school in Newton, have plans to continue their education after graduation, and demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement. Our scholarship has already helped 10 deserving students with the costs of college. We are eager to support more civically-engaged graduates begin their next chapters.

In the season of giving or at any other time, we kindly ask you to donate to our Scholarship Fund.  Any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.

April 12, 2018

Thanks to all who helped make Champagne and Chocolate a success–we raised close to $4000 thanks to your generosity!  Special thanks to guest speaker Anita Walker, Newton Cultural Alliance, A Russo & Sons and Marty’s Liquors, as well as all our donors.  Below are pictures from last Sunday, courtesy of Tami Roberts and Kay Khan.

Thanks for your support of LWVN at Champagne and Chocolate!

April 8, 2018

Many thanks to all who made today’s Champagne and Chocolate fundraiser a success!

First, thanks to all who donated and attended this afternoon–League members gave generously and enjoyed treats for both the body and the mind.  Delicious wine, cheese, and chocolate treats were courtesy of A. Russo and Sons as well as Marty’s Liquors, while an interesting history of the Allen House was shared by both Rep. Kay Khan and Adrienne Hartzell on behalf of the Newton Cultural Alliance.  Finally, we heard about the important connection between art, artists and politics from our fantastic guest speaker, Anita Walker, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Second, thanks to our amazing team of League volunteers, without whom this never would have happened.  Thanks go to:  Pat Acton, Bonnie Carter, Marcia Johnson, Andrea Kozinetz, Sharyn Roberts and Tami Roberts.

This fundraiser helps cover our expenses over the next few years for things like rental fees for event space, hospitality, the Pollworkers’ Party, etc.  Most of our membership fees go to help support the important work being done at the state and national levels, so we greatly appreciate the extra financial support!
