Help Needed this Sunday to Register Voters at Markey Town Hall

Join LWVN members before Senator Markey’s Town Hall to register voters…let us know if you can help out at info@lwvnewton.org!  We’ll let you know when and where to meet at Boston College on Sunday, March 25.  Hope to see you there!

LWVN registered 91 voters on Friday–join the team to register more this week!

LWVN was invited to Newton South High School on Friday to register new voters… with the help of an amazing group of students!  Together, they registered (or partially registered*) 91 voters–almost all of whom are students.  Special thanks to Sharyn Roberts, LWVN Voter Registration Chair, and Phyllis Kirschner, LWVN volunteer, for their great work!

Join LWVN at Newton North High School for a voter registration drive on Tuesday and Wednesday.  NNHS students will be helping register their peers with guidance from LWVN.  Contact us at info@lwvnewton.org to volunteer.

*Students need to have their social security numbers to register to vote…if you know someone who is registering for the first time, please remind them to have that info available.

Help Register Students to Vote at the Walkout This Week!

LWVN will be registering students to vote the day of the planned student walkout (part of the National School Walkout) on March 14th at Newton South High School, from 10:55 am to 12:55 pm.  If you want to help, please contact info@lwvnewton.org for more information.

LWVN will also be registering students on both March 20th and 21st at Newton North High School, from 11:45am to 1:15 pm.  Please contact us if you would like to join our voter service team that day at info@lwvnewton.org!

Special thanks to Sharyn Roberts for organizing these events for LWVN, and to the students at both Newton South and Newton North High Schools who helped to make this happen!

Automatic Voter Registration Lobby Day on Wednesday, January 31

We need your help! Join LWVMA and the other members of the Election Modernization Coalition for a lobby day to pass Automatic Voter Registration at the State House Wednesday, Jan. 31, 9:30 a.m. to noon.  Registration and training will take place in Room 428 in the State House (24 Beacon St., Boston).

We will be working hard to get the AVR bill out of the Joint Committee on Election Laws and to the floor of the House for a vote. Nothing makes as strong an impression on legislators as in-person visits from constituents.

Sign up here to participate in the AVR lobby day.

Can’t make it to Boston?  Call your state Representative that day and ask him/her to urge the Speaker to bring the Automatic Voter Registration bill (H.2091/S.373) to the floor for a vote.

You can also help by sending a letter to the editor of your local paper supporting AVR.  You can find a template for a letter from an individual here.  Sign up here to let us know that you are submitting a letter, so we can track our statewide impact. And please download our fact sheet on automatic voter registration.
