On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the Massachusetts Campaign for Single Payer Health Care (MASS-CARE) held a forum on Medicare for All, A Single Payer Health System for MA. This program was co-sponsored by LWVN; Our Revolution Watertown/Waltham/Newton; Progressive Watertown; the law office of Ken Ormes, attorney; Our Revolution MA; and Mass Nurses Association.
The program was hosted by Alison Leary, Newton City Councilor-at-Large. Keynote speakers were Donald Berwick MD, MPP, FRCP, former Chief of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid under the Obama administration; Gordon Schiff, MD, quality and safety director for the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care Physicians for a National Health Program; and Bruce Fleischer, retired Services Employees International Union organizer and chair of the labor committee of Mass-Care.
The forum addressed the problems of our current health care system; the shortcomings of the ACA; how a single payer health care system in Massachusetts can achieve fair, equitable and high-quality healthcare in the Commonwealth for all; the myths surrounding Medicare for All; and what it would take to achieve a single payer health care system in the Commonwealth.
