Questions and Answers
Question 1: What in your background prepares you to be effective in the political office you are seeking?
I feel I am well positioned for City Council for the following reasons. First and foremost, I have a passion and love for the ward. I have been an active member here all my life. I coached Little League, volunteered at the JMB Boys and Girls Club as well as serving on their board of directors and was president of their Alumni Association.
There are certainly synergies from the community work to serving the members of the community. But more importantly my willingness to roll up my sleeves bringing a “can do” attitude to the members of the community is why I believe I am well positioned for the role.
Question 2: If you're elected, what will be your first priority? Why? How will you address your priority?
My number one priority is public safety, and I would work hard to promote and preserve this throughout the ward and city. We owe it to the members of our communities to provide them with a safe environment.
With that said I have always said that the issues and priorities should come from the members of the community. In its most simplistic form, their priorities and my priorities.
I will foster this through availability, responsiveness and follow up. I will listen, research and respond to the members of the ward.
Question 3: How will you make your decision to vote on a proposal that positively affects Newton overall but seems less so for all or part of your ward?
Obviously my first responsibility as a ward councilor is represent the collective voice of the voters. I will always look to strike the balance between doing the right thing for the ward I represent while keeping the entire city’s interest top of mind.
The key here is effective communication with both ward members and city councilors to ensure there is solid understanding of issues and outcome.
