Tuesday, March 4th, marks the President’s State of the Union Address to Congress. Instead of tuning in, We the People, through the League of Women Voters of Newton, are planning a “Light For Our Democracy” community gathering at 8:30 p.m. on the steps of Newton City Hall. All are welcome.
Democracy is not just a system of government—it’s the power of, by, and for the people. It begins with us, our voices, and our votes. Leagues of Women Voters throughout the U.S. are hosting “Light for Our Democracy” gatherings Tuesday evening in public spaces across the country, to bring people together in reflection, action, and solidarity. At a time when democracy is under threat, we’re asking you – and countless folks across the country – to come together to defend it.
