LWVN sincerely thanks all those involved in the Yes for a Newton Charter campaign. Although we didn’t achieve our goal after many years of trying, the conversation is continuing and voters have a better understanding of how our government currently works.
In particular, we want to thank:
- the Newton Charter Commission for their hundreds of hours of research and discussion on how to make Newton’s government more responsive and accountable. Members of the Charter Commission were: Josh Krintzman (Chair), Rhanna Kidwell (Vice-Chair), Bryan Barash, Jane Frantz, Howard Haywood, Anne Larner, Brooke Lipsitt, Karen Manning, and Christopher Steele.
- the co-chairs of the Yes campaign: Jen Abbot, Frieda Dweck, and Andrea Steenstrup. They stayed organized, positive, and focused throughout the campaign.
- the many volunteers who helped not only with the campaign, but also those who collected signatures for many years to set the vote in motion. Members of LWVN and those who wanted to see charter change worked together to educate the voters and advocate for a “yes” vote.
