The Newton Charter Commission recently held a public hearing focused on the executive branch and the School Committee. There were a number of members of the public commenting, and our observer notes are available at lwvnewton.org, by clicking on the “observer notes” link in the Charter Commission box on the right.
Not surprisingly, however, many also took this opportunity to weigh in on the size of the City Council. LWVN has long advocated for a smaller City Council and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. For the specifics of the LWVN position from our 2010 Charter Study, click here: charter study .
Now is the time for the Newton Charter Commission to hear your thoughts! Send your thoughts and comments to chartercommission@newtonma.gov or come to the public hearing on March 30th at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber. While all comments are welcomed, the focus of this public hearing will be the legislative branch (the City Council.)
