Austin Street Project is Approved

December 13, 2015

On Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen approved, by a vote of 17-6,  the proposal to build a 68-unit building on the site of Austin Street parking lot.  LWVN was a member of the Friends of Austin Street, a group advocating for the project because of the benefits it will bring:  an increase in the number of affordable housing units, an environmentally friendly construction method, and a transit-oriented development offering single-level living in one of our village centers.

LWVN thanks all the Aldermen for their thorough and thoughtful consideration of this project, and Mayor Warren for supporting this project all the way though to the vote on Tuesday.   We especially thank Alderman Marc Laredo for his leadership during the many public hearings, ensuring a fair and respectful process.  LWVN also thanks the members of Friends of Austin Street for their leadership, organization, and dedication on this issue.  We are proud to have participated in supporting this worthy project and look forward to its completion.
