Voters want to learn more about what the State Treasurer and State Auditor do for the citizens of Massachusetts and who is running for those offices this fall. The League of Women of Voters (LWV) will host a State Treasurer and Auditor Candidates’ Forum on Sunday, October 19, 2014, 2:00-3:30 p.m., at the Willard School Auditorium, 185 Powder Mill Road, Concord, MA. The forum is free and open to the public.
LWV has invited all of the candidates running for Treasurer and Auditor whose names will appear on the November 4 ballot. Running for Treasurer are Democrat Deb Goldberg of Brookline, Republican Mike Heffernan of Wellesley and Green-Rainbow candidate Ian Jackson of Arlington. Current State Auditor Suzanne Bump, a Democrat from Great Barrington, is running for reelection, and her opponents are Republican Patricia Saint Aubin of Norfolk and Green-Rainbow candidate MK Merelice of Brookline.
The LWV of Concord-Carlisle is the hosting sponsor of the forum, and the LWVs of Acton Area, Andover/North Andover, Needham, Sudbury, Wayland, Wellesley and Westford are co-sponsors. Also supporting the event are the LWVs of Melrose, Newton, Plymouth Area and Waltham. The forum will be recorded for later broadcast on local cable TV stations in many communities.
Voters may send suggested questions for the candidates to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5:00 p.m. on October 17. Please indicate whether your question is for the candidates running for Treasurer or Auditor.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 4. Eligible residents must register to vote no later than October 15. Online information about the candidates is available in the LWV Voters’ Guide at www.lwvma.org.
