New Date for Charter Commission Topic Meeting

The new date for our next topic meeting on the Charter Commission will be Thursday, March 2, at the Durant-Kenrick House, 286 Waverley Ave in Newton, from 8 am to 9:30 am.  Please join two Charter Commission members to hear about their work and the proposed changes we will all be voting on in November!

Due to the impending snowstorm and subsequent parking restrictions, LWVN has postponed Thursday’s topic meeting on the Charter Commission until March 2.  Look for reminders in upcoming emails!

Topic Meeting on Solid Waste This Thursday!

Join LWVN for our monthly topic meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 8am to 9:30 am at the Durant-Kenrick House on Waverley Avenue.  Waneta Trabert is the featured speaker, talking about solid waste in Newton.  She will give an overview of Newton’s recycling and waste management program and efforts underway to improve recycling rates, reduce trash tonnage and encouraging re-use and re-purposing of materials and products.

April Topic Meeting: Visioning a Better Washington Street & State Legislation on Transportation

Join us for an open discussion and visioning session on how Washington Street could better serve residents and businesses. We will look at alternatives and discuss their pros and cons. LWVMA Transportation Specialist Lois Levin will also summarize state bicycle bills that affect transportation and safety.

The topic meeting will take place in the NewTV conference room, 23 Needham Street, Newton Highlands, on Wednesday, April 13, from 11:30am – 1pm.  Brown bag lunches welcome!
